Sleepy Time

Games

Making fun games after bedtime.

When the kid goes to bed, I finally get a moment to have the mental clarity required to create games. While there are certainly cleaner and more immersive games out there, they're not necessarily produced with the same excitement.
Programming has been a love since I was typing code into Apple IIe's and IBM's with monochrome screens. I've never made coding part of my job, which preserves my love. Programming also gets to be a source of sanity since my career often leaves things ambiguous and unfinished.

The games are so basic - even glitchy?

Yes, they are! This has been a learning process for me. All I can say is that, like most things in life, I get better with each new endeavor and challenge. I keep on honing my craft as a game developer. Game development and programming are hobby - not vocation.

He doesn't know what he's doing!

I've got a decent idea of what I'm doing. As I've explained - I'm still learning a lot. For example, this webpage -- the first webpage I've coded HTML for since I had an AOL account. The page is a demonstration of my skills since relearning HTML to then taking on CSS, JavaScript, and all that other good back end stuff.

Sleepy Time - I don't get it.

I've got another gig. I work an already proposterous amount as a psychotherapist. What an odd combo? Most people I've met, have done it the other way around. Become a programmer - sell your soul for your millions, then redeem yourself as humble therapist or social worker living off the dividends. People are never "done," therapy is never "done." Code you can walk away with a completed product... until it's depricated.

The inspiration!

Really bad programming brought me back to learning code and development. There's a terrible software package for mental health agencies. When I discovered how much one pays for something that makes life more difficult and one's work more time consuming, I had to find out if programming was really as difficult as it sounded. It's tricky to make something work properly all the time, no doubt, but now I also know that the program is terrible for that kind of money.

Play the games!
